Training Your Companion
Study Buddies
Easy, Now
If you're thinking of training an overly energetic or rambunctious pup, great idea! Puppies and young dogs can be more difficult to wrangle (with personalities all their own!), but it might just take the right "language" to motivate them. Some dogs prefer treats as motivators, others prefer pets and scratches! Once you find the right combination of motivators and verbal commands (and with plenty of persistence), you and your companion will practically have your own language! Whereas before "sit" or "heel" were just nonsensical sounds to them, now your companion knows what you're asking of them. And, this will only make both your lives easier!
Safety First!
Now that your companion has an understanding of a few words or commands, imagine the confidence you'll both have going out safely in public. Your companion will now be much more likely to listen to you in the event you need them to follow your directions. Even if you haven't trained for a specific command or phrase, your companion is much more in tune with you thanks to the persistence of your training, and consistency of your tone/words and reward/scold system.
Closer, Together
You and your companion have put in hours upon hours training and practicing commands. Without a doubt, the two of you have grown closer simply because of the time spent together. But, since they have been taking cues from you all this time, they better understand their role in your family. Although the "alpha dog" theory has been debunked, dogs will develop a kind of "societal rulebook" in their packs, and you are cementing your role as one they should look to for guidance. This time you spend together helps them understand the family dynamics. Training isn't just serious business all the time. It's an opportunity to have fun with your companion, and for you two to understand each other better and grow closer. And, when you start down that road, remember that Wag N' Wash has everything you need to help 'em learn and keep 'em wagging (your local Wag N' Wash may even offer training courses in-store)!
